Life Long Yoga brings the yoga practice to the chair vs. the mat. It is appropriate for EVERY body. The practice combines static poses and dynamic movement to open the body and focus the mind. Life Long Yoga’s choreography centers around consistent breath, gaze points, engagement of the core muscles and awareness of the spine. Mindfulness and presence are taught and sustained throughout the practice as participants are guided toward awakening the joints through simple movement, relaxation of the body, engagement of the musculoskeletal system, and the breath. Variations are offered for each pose so every BODY can find a level of comfort that strengthens and challenges. At times, we offer balance challenges while using the chair as a way achieve confidence; exercises in memory enhancement with simple combination movements connected to the breath and as always, we bring a lighthearted sense of humor to this amazing practice that promotes, health and and an improved sense of well-being. Life Long Yoga is for life!

In our standard Life Long Yoga class, participants should be able to walk into the practice room with little or no assistance, should be able to sit up straight on their own for a period of 30 minutes or more, and it is encouraged that the participant be able to stand using an “armless” chair.

We also offer classes to the senior assisted living or personal care population, communities with memory impairment, and fully seated classes for those who truly cannot stand. If your community seeks a fully seated class, please let us know.

Who teaches and what are their credentials?

Our teachers are certified yoga instructors who are also trained in the LIFE LONG YOGA program so that no matter who is teaching the class, the format will remain the same for all. All are certified in CPR and AED and many of our instructors are also trained/certified in Sliver Sneakers, Pilates, Barre, Group Fitness, Physical Therapy, as well as Personal Training and Carol Elia is an Active Aging Adult Fitness Specialist.

Is a doctor’s clearance required for this class?

No doctor’s note is required to practice Life Long Yoga however it is advised that if one has had recent surgery or has any cause for concern due to health issues, that they see their doctor prior to practice and explain what the Life Long Practice is about. Life Long Yoga is a practice seated in and standing by a chair, however the entire practice can be completed in the chair vs. standing. Our motto is the same for all – if it doesn’t feel right that day, then back off. There is no reason to push our bodies and we actually breath more easily if we are not straining. Honor the body!

Life Long Yoga is for Every BODY

Our goal is to offer the health benefits of the yoga practice, mind, body and breath awareness, to all individuals interested in the practice. Traditional mat yoga classes can be inaccessible at times and often require one to get up and down from the floor. Life Long Yoga caters to those who cannot access the floor easily or do not care to practice on a mat due to immobility issues, pregnancy, hip replacement, obesity, Individuals with painful arthritis, fibromyalgia, vertigo, balance issues, high blood pressure, or other chronic conditions. Life Long Yoga can be the answer to practicing without the worry of getting up and down on the mat!
